The unit monitors the NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) "All Hazards" network for National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information, while also picking up weather bulletins, warnings, and forecasts from the Emergency Alert System (EAS). As a result, you'll be the first to know should a tornado, tsunami, hurricane, or other natural disaster be forming in your area--even when the electricity is out.

The WR602 isn't restricted to weather-related emergencies, however, as the NWR also broadcasts warnings and post-event information for environmental disasters such as chemical releases and oil spills and public safety alerts like 911 telephone outages.

As if that weren't enough, the WR602 also receives reports directly from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (NOAA), which provides all available emergency advisories on tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, floods, evacuations, civil danger warnings, and more.

Programming is flexible and simple: just select the Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) broadcast in your area and you'll receive all applicable local alerts. Once programmed, the radio offers three levels of messages: statement, watch, and warning, along with tests in English, French, or Spanish.

The radio even includes separate modes for home and travel use, and comes with a rechargeable NiMH battery for on-the-go use. Additional features include manual and automatic channel selection, a clock with an alarm and a snooze function, a signal strength icon with a signal loss reminder, an external speaker jack, and programming for up to 10 FIPS codes.
